Many of us have tried our best to improve our physical, material and spiritual situation. We have tried every method of various religious teachings, for example meditation and some rituals, but some of us do not see any result of our devotion to meditation. We are feeling that nothing has really been changed, and thus wondered how to really improve our lives.
It is essential to realise that if our lives have not changed, there is something that we have not tried. It may be that we have tried many outer things but if nothing has changed, we need to step back and look at the more subtle attitudes and beliefs that we have. We need to look at ourselves and ask ourselves some questions about how we look at life.
This is a very common syndrome that the Ascended Masters see in many spiritual and religious people. The syndrome is most obvious in religious people who have been brought up with the traditional concept of God that we find in several Western & Eastern religions, where God is seen as the remote God in the sky or where the Ascended Masters like Mother Mary and Kuan Yin are looked upon as the Divine Mother. They are looked upon as a kind of Santa Claus that has to fulfill our desires and our wishes. There are many people who think that if we go to church or temple, light a candle or joss stick, do some donations and say a few prayers and that the Ascended Masters or "God" are supposed to magically appear and solve our problems for us.
Many of the religious and spiritual people, who go through an outer exercise and then expect that somehow, by some kind of magic, our lives are going to change. More spiritually aware people that also believe that doing the outer technique, from meditation to invocations or decrees, should be enough to change our lives, but this is a misunderstanding of what the spiritual path is all about. The misunderstanding actually goes quite deep because of of all, it is a failure to understand the significance of free will.
Many of us who are awakened to the spiritual side of life become awakened because we have a desire to change something in the outer situation. For example, we have people who experience an illness and then hear about the potential that doing some spiritual practice could help heal us. So we start a spiritual practice for the specific purpose of solving a concrete physical problem. Some of us may want abundance and so we think that giving a certain amount of decrees, invocations or affirmations, will magically bring that abundance into our lives.
When we understand the teachings the Ascended Masters have given, we realize that the physical situation we are facing is a product of what is going on in our three higher bodies, our emotional, mental and identity bodies. In order for us to truly change our physical situation, we have to change what is going on in the 3 higher bodies. This, of course, is what the Ascended Masters teachings and tools are designed to help us do, and if we apply these teachings and tools, we will over time be able to systematically change what is happening in our 3 higher bodies.
It will for most people take a considerable amount of time, whereby some will take several years and perhaps even a decade or 2, to bring a major change in the 3 higher bodies. That is why Jesus told us to possess our souls in our patience by not becoming so impatient that we give up before we see a physical manifestation.
There are many of us who try a technique, in order to see a specific change, and we have in our mind that this should happen within a certain time frame. Then, if it does not happen, we give up on the technique. Some try another technique, others give up entirely on the entire idea that this can help. We see many people who actually give up before there has been time for the change to be brought through the 3 higher levels of the mind and into the physical.
Now again, if we apply the Ascended Masters teachings, we will be able to come to a point where we have transformed the beliefs, the energies, the wounds in our 3 higher bodies and now there is no blockage in those 3 bodies to the manifestation of a change in our outer situation. But there are 2 things that we need to consider. First of all, if our outer situation involves other people, such as for example our parents and family, then changing ourselves cannot always bring about a change in the outer situation.
If the other people are not willing to change, then there may be some practical things that cannot be changed by us changing ourselves. There also is the consideration of the free will of the other people. Then we have the option to remove ourselves from the situation and thereby bring about a change. But we cannot always expect that the other people will change, and we certainly cannot expect that changing ourselves will also change other people. Again, we cannot use our decrees and invocations to override the free will of other people.
The second factor that we need to be aware of is that for there to be certain practical changes in our situation, we need to make certain decisions and we need to take certain actions. There are many of us who believe that once we pray or give invocations to bring about a certain change, then that is all we have to do. Then one day by magic, God or some other Ascended Masters is going to step in and change our outer situation.
When we understand the reality of free will, we realize that our outer situation, as it is right now, is part of our learning process, our growth process. We need to be aware and we need to realize that our outer situation as it is right now, is to a large extent the result of choices we made, often in a past lifetime. We may give the invocations to clear our 3 higher bodies, but before the change can become physical, there are certain decisions we need to make with our conscious mind. Therefore we need to be willing to look at ourselves and look at the patterns we can see in this lifetime, of where we have not been willing to make decisions.
Most of the time for many of us, where the only one thing that stands in the way of a change in our lives is that there is one decision we are not willing to make. We have not been willing to make that decision or that type of decision previously in this lifetime and in many previous lifetimes. We can come to a point where in a past lifetime we have been hurt by making a certain decision, or we were so affected by the consequences of that decision, that we have subconsciously decided that we never again want to make that kind of decision.
There are also many of us, who are actually going through life and we are relating to life, based on this subconscious decision that there are certain decisions we don't want to make, there are certain experiences we don't want to have, there are consequences we don't want to experience again. We are in reality not willing to take command over our lives, we are not even willing to truly decide: "What do I want in life and what do I have to do to achieve it?" For example, some of us are so afraid of making a mistake that we do not dare to put ourselves in a situation where we are taking an education and we might fail the exam. Yet, these people still have a dream of having a specific type of job, but the only practical way to get that job is to get an education and go through that education.
If we want to become a doctor, we need to go to a university and study this field. We cannot sit in front of our altar and give rosaries or pray and think that one day, a paper will manifest saying we have a degree as a doctor. This, of course, applies to many other more ordinary situations in life where we see people who are only separated from, or only prevented from experiencing a change by the fact that there is a decision we do not want to make. We do not want to actually look in the mirror and say "How do I have to change myself, my attitude, my psychology, in order to manifest this outer change?" We do not want to take command over our lives and therefore we are actually not willing to attain mastery.
Self-mastery is not mechanical. Spirituality is not mechanical. It's about taking dominion of our own actions, emotions, thoughts and our lives, making decisions and taking actions even when they seem to be extremely hard. But if one can do, all can do too.
