Yin yoga is a slow-paced style of yoga with asanas (postures) that are held for longer periods of time—it may range from one to three minutes and is a floor based style of yoga.
It is not a vigorous practice of movement however holding a stretch for several minutes is often more intense and full of sensation than a vigorous practice.
It stretches and targets both the deep connective tissues between the muscles, and the fascia throughout the body. The aim is to increase circulation in the joints and improve flexibility as the poses stretch and exercise the bone and joint areas. It also helps us to regulate the body’s flow of energy through the meridians.
Yin is an introspective practice that offers a chance to turn inward and nurture the calm, quiet center that is innate in all of us. It is a Meditative practice inviting stillness and non-reactivity. Yin calms and balances the mind and body.
At Namaha Retreat there is no judgement. Nicole believes that every pose is only done to your own level of comfort. With the inclusion of bolsters and blocks as props each student is settled safely into the pose. If you’re feeling it...you’re doing it.

"The only temple that matters can be found within yourself" ~ The Dalai Lama
Yoga is the Science of Life. It is a fully integrated practice which affects all aspects of human life. Yoga provides a proven way that systematically leads to a point where you can express your full potential on all levels. Hatha Yoga encompasses all styles of yoga to balance the body not only physically but mentally.
Hatha Yoga at Namaha Retreat embodies a classical, traditional approach to yoga. Following the 8-fold path of yoga, where emphasis does not solely exist on the asanas (postures) segment of a yoga practice. You can experience pranayama (breathing practice), meditation and relaxation techniques. We attach great need to connect the mind, body and breath throughout the yoga classes.
Practising Yoga can lead you to a state of being where you can live in harmony with yourself, your environment and those around you.
Hatha yoga classes with Devamurti have a gentle movement touch and welcome for every level of experience. She encourages her students to practice with a sense of freedom.
Devamurti strongly believes the most important thing is to move in a way that is safe and brings comfort to your own body. By doing that, the benefits of yoga go beyond just the physical practice – as you dive into this ancient practice you begin to awaken in ways you never thought is possible. Your breath becomes bigger, fuller and it has purpose and the mind begins to clarity. Yoga is a breathing class – we breathe all day long but when in a consciously way? Every session includes at least one pranayama (breathing technique). It becomes your focal point, your guide because the breath directs how we feel inside. When we move in yoga, the breath bridges the mind and body
With fluctuation of the mind we become attached to over 50,000 thoughts we have a day. Yoga teaches you to observe the thoughts and not become them.
When we begin to understand that physical poses in yoga teach us to breathe with intention, then we move with purpose. When we are coming from this place of authenticity, love and acceptance the mind quiets down. You can become your true self.

"Quiet the mind and the soul will speak "~ Buddha
‘Nidra’ means sleep in Sanskrit. When following this meditation, it takes you past the dreaming stage and into a state of conscious deep sleep, where the brain waves function in theta state and healing of the nervous system, heart and mind take place.
In Nidra Vidya we learn to relax with awareness. It is a systemic method of relaxing completely the body, the mind and the emotions. We may appear to be asleep, but our consciousness is attuned to a deeper level of awareness.
We let go of the outer senses, distractions and disturbances and enter more deeply into ourselves. It is when relaxation is deep and away from the senses that our receptivity is increased, and we can implant impressions in this state of mind that bring greater fulfilment into our lives.
Through consciously relaxing the effort of body and mind, we learn to address stress in our waking states with more ease and direct the flow of energy more intentionally. This form of yoga can be done and experienced by people of all ages and abilities. Nidra Vidya is especially beneficial for those experiencing physical or mental health issues, though even people in good health will benefit, experiencing improvements in general well-being, quality of sleep and stress levels. Lying down in comfort and listen, this guided deep relaxation session will be drifting you between sleep and wakefulness.
Join for a relaxing break from the busy daily life and dive into the world of relaxation where you can unwind and re-energise.
